I think there was some big comic thing that went on this past week. Um…oh yeah! San Diego Comic Con! I was not there, but I had a few friends that were. Highlights of my non-trip to Comic Con were: my friend Hilton bringing me a sweet sketch from Jeph Jacques, the artist behind my favorite webcomic Questionable Content. Actually, reading his comic inspired me to start my own. It’s still the only strip that I read DAILY. I check in on a lot of others frequently, but QC gets a daily visit from me (and I’m pretty sure from Hilton, too). The other part of my vicarious vacation that I thought was really cool was that my friend Arthur donned a homeless Batman outfit & hit Comic Con hard, so much so that his pic was featured in the Huffington Post, USA Today’s Pop Candy blog & Topless Robot to name a few. The week before, we wore luchador masks to Monday Night RAW here in Tulsa & managed to be on live tv most of the night. Arthur, your geek star power is rising! So, Comic Con held highlights for someone who wasn’t even there.  Maybe next year? ;-)

zomg! Jeph Jacques sketch! squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

BatArthur!

Masterlock challenge! Luchadors at Monday Night RAW!

You know the drill around here. It’s Friday! Here, have a drink & an awesome weekend:

Three Miller Cocktail

1 1/2 oz. Light Rum

3/4 oz. Brandy

1 tsp. Grenadine

1/4 tsp. Lemon Juice

Shake with ice & strain into cocktail glass. Do not add High Life : )

Cheers,

Lee

This little comic about mosquitoes has been plugging away for 2 years now, updating every Friday (and never missing a deadline). Woo-hoo! Break out the confetti! If you’ve been along for the ride for the past two years, thank you! It’s the facebook comments, the retweets, the questions I get about how the comic’s going & that sorta’ thing that keeps me going. I appreciate the support! If you’re just discovering La Vida Skeeter, there’s an archive of 130 comics just waiting for you to read more! Hope you like it & come join us every Friday for some chuckles. Now, where is that drink?  We have some celebrating to do!

Dreamy Monkey

1 oz. Vodka

1/2 oz. Creme de Banana

1/2 oz. Creme de Cacao (brown)

1 Banana

2 scoops Vanilla Ice Cream

1 oz. Light Cream

Combine the ingredients in a blender with half that banana & blend until smooth. Pour into parfait glass & top with whipped cream. Garnish with other half of the banana for a drink that’s more fun than a barrel of cocktail monkeys.

Cheers,
Lee

Here’s some more entertainment for you. Who needs Guitar Hero during the World Cup when you could play this?

I’ve been enjoying catching the games on Saturday mornings at Empire Bar here in T-Town with my buddy Trey & caught the US/England game over at my friend Steven‘s.  Here I am at that party:

Don’t judge me on the England shirt.  My local Target was sold outta’ USA shirts & I’m a sucker for themes.  Anyway, the weekend’s here!  Kick back, watch some fútbol & here, have a drink -

Viva Mexico

2 oz. Tequila (We used Oro Azul Blanco Tequila)
½ oz. Orange liqueur
½ oz. Agave nectar
Juice from two squeezed limes
Salt
1 Lime wedge

Moisten rim of martini glass with lime wedge and dip into salt. Shake ingredients with crushed ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain in a martini glass over ice cubes. Garnish with a lime wedge. ¡Olé Olé Olé! (source)

Go enjoy it! But first, here, have a drink:

T & T

2 oz. Tanqueray Gin

Tonic Water

Pour gin over ice cubes into highball glass & fill with tonic water. Stir. Garnish with a lime wedge. Careful, it’s explosive ;-)

Summa-summa-time!  Happy weekend!  I am at the Tulsa Trek Expo today for my dayjob (shooting the local news).  My goals: meet Adam West & meet William Shatner (but mostly Adam West)!  My brother & I grew up on the old Batman reruns.  Each week after the show, we’d tie towels around our necks like capes and try to figure out a way to escape from the Batvillain-du-jour’s cliffhanger trap.  Wish me luck at the Expo.  With any luck, I’ll post some pics next week here on La Vida Skeeter.  Without luck, well…my station will have its live shot for the morning show.  Also, I’ll be sporting my Skeeter shirt (which I hope to make available for purchase  as soon as I quit being such a slacker).  So, if you see me, say hello!  In the meantime, have a drink & remember to tune in next week!  Same Skeeter time! Same Skeeter channel!

Banana Slip

1 1/2 oz. Creme de Banana

1 1/2 oz. Irish Cream Liqueur

Pour carefully, in order given, into cordial glass, to form 2 layers.  I seem to remember there being a cheaper version of the Slip N’ Slide called the Wet Banana. Am I wrong here?

Cheers,
Lee

P.S. Yes, one of the flies in this week’s comic is totally an homage to TMNT’s Baxter Stockman.

Did anyone else think the Smoke Monster was a swarm the first time you saw him?

I’m a Lost dork. My wife & I were late-comers to the Lost party though. It wasn’t until almost Season Four that we rented the first season, at which point, we embarked on a Lost marathon unmatched anywhere. For at least a week, we were shut-ins (in our own little sideflash world). We blazed through the first three seasons, at first really hooked. Then, bogged-down somewhere in Season 3, we kept watching just to play catch-up before Season 4. We stayed the course through Seasons 4, 5 & 6, weathering the introduction of other others, time-travelling, fish biscuits, and the apparent forgetfulness of the writers about Walt (what happened to him?!). The finale (leaving as many questions as Lost always does) was worth it for me. It’s had me thinking about it all week, and I’ve even gone back and watched it again. More of my questions were answered reading blogs & chatting with fellow Losties.  I found this one really interesting (supposedly, it’s from someone at Bad Robot).

At any rate, I figure this is a much more likely outcome for our Lostaways. I mean, really, the odds of them catching malaria from an island mosquito vs. discovering that the island keeps the balance of good and evil in the world and having to kill a smoke monster are probably 4,815,162,342 – to – 1, right? (yes, those were the Lost numbers)  Well, the weekend is here!  I hope you find your own metaphorical island to get away from it all.  Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone!  Have a drink & stay safe:

Not Penny’s Boat

Tall glass with ice

add 2 shots Vodka

Twist-O-Lime

add 2 oz. 1/2 regular grapefruit juice

fill to top with Orange Juice

Let Jacob touch it before you take a drink for an added kick. (source)

Namaste,
Lee
