TGIF, my Skeeterholics! Long week = Short blog. I’m writing this Thurs night & it’s been a very looong day for me. 3 things for your “to-do” list this weekend: check out Global Ignite Week, learn where one of these events is going on around you, and GO! My wife & I attended Ignite Tulsa tonight and really had a great time listening to some passionate speakers. Topics ranged from “Top 10 Things I Learned as An Alpha Blonde” to feminism/”menaissance” discussions to “A People’s Revolution of Crappy American Music.” Happy Friday, gang! Take a load off, you’ve earned it. Kick back & have a drink:
Top Gun
2 oz. Orange Juice
1 1/4 oz. Rum
1/2 oz. Bacardi Black Rum
2 oz. Pineapple
Use Spiced rum for recipe , then float 151 proof Rum on top. Serve in a Highball Glass, and remember: if you can only handle one, the plaque for the alternates is in the ladies room!!
Cheers,
Lee (call sign: Ice Man)

Love Potion #9
1 oz strawberry, vanilla or clear vodka
1/2 oz white creme de cacao
1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
1 scoop of vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup ice
Pour ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into a chilled margarita glass (if you can rim it with chocolate, more power to ya) & garnish with a strawberry. Not Madame Rue’s brew, but it’ll do ; )
Cheers,
Lee
PS: Shout-out to my valentine: I love you, Amanda!!!!

This week’s comic is me making light of a very scary situation I’ve had to deal with lately. About a month ago, I started getting these really bad headaches. Then, a couple weeks ago, I started having vision problems with the headaches. I finally got in to see my doctor this week & discovered with a blood pressure test, that I was in a state of hypertensive emergency. Translation: my blood pressure was dangerously high (180/120). My doctor said it was aneurysm/stroke high (if untreated that kind of hypertension usually leads to death in 3 to 6 months). He put me on medicine right away and ran some tests to make sure there wasn’t any damage to internal organs yet. That was Monday. I went back on Wednesday for an MRI on my head & to check in with the doc again. He put me on two more meds & it was encouraging that my blood pressure had come down some (160/112). Anyway, when I started thinking of a gag for this week’s comic about mosquitoes drinking blood, guess what immediately popped into my head : ) The headaches are easing up & I’m keeping a positive outlook, fingers crossed that I’m on the road to recovery. I’ll keep ya posted (or die trying…KIDDING). TGIF, my friends! We’ve made it through another week. Happy weekend! Get out there, embrace life & do something fun & healthy this weekend. I’ll see ya back here next Friday with another Skeeter comic.
Cheers,
Lee

Sorry, this week’s comic is a remix of this comic. I had waay too much on my plate this week to draw a new one. I’m actually posting this from a hotel room right now. Oklahoma is being hit by an ice storm, and my workplace put me up in a hotel near the tv station where I work, so I could be there in the morning to run live shots and shoot the frosty weather. There will be a brand-spankin’ new LVS next week. Promise. ‘Til then, “just batdance, gonna’ be okay…”

The mustache may have either been my 1st fear or my 1st amusement. My dad tells a story of how I saw someone with a ’stache when I was really young & publicly called him out: ”Look, Dad! If it was amusement…well, I’m still amused. Facial fur is just funny. It turns men into muppets. Anywho…in other news…I reworked an old project I did freshman year of high school (‘92-’93) & posted it to youtube. Playing with it gave me some food for thought about animating these drunk mosquitoes at some point. If and when, you’ll be the 1st to know. I’ll keep ya posted. In the meantime, check out the clip (& don’t judge too harshly…I mean, the source tape was VHS & it’s lost a few generations over the years). It was originally titled “blur” (I think because that was my favorite band at the time). I’ve renamed it “Black Times at the Blue Lizard,” which I think fits better. So, kick back, fullscreen the youtube. If you’re wearing bifocals, tilt your head back & zoom in. And enjoy!
Black Times at the Blue Lizard
Oh yeah, it’s the weekend. Here ya go, sport: have a drink!
Narragansett (for my old friends in Little Rhody)
1 1/2 oz. Bourbon
1 oz. Sweet Vermouth
1 dash Anisette
Stir in an old-fashioned glass with ice. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel. Bartender, how do you pronounce that again?
Cheers,
Lee

me-ow! I wonder how many mosquitoes have met death by cat swat. I know my dog has caught several (and it’s like watching Mr. Miyagi catch flies with a pair of chopsticks). Anyway, there was an earthquake in Haiti this week. We can help out. Wyclef Jean says so. Plus, it’s just the right thing to do. Have a nice weekend, skeeterholics & here, have a drink:
Cat’s Meow
1 oz. Blended Whiskey
1 scoop Vanilla Ice Cream
Whip it up in blender & pour into an old-fashioned glass or snifter for maximum delicious-ity! Try not to get on your whiskers, cats n’ kittens.

Happy Friday! We made it to another weekend! Sorry, no blog post last week. I’ve been supersuperbusy. The holidays were hectic (we had a blizzard dump on us, I had to work Christmas, then we roadtripped all over the place to visit relatives). Then I got sick. Then work’s been crazy. Then my dog’s been injured, requiring a lotta’ care. Plus I’m also gearing up to co-teach a college class starting this next week. Deep breath. This comic’s one of the few things in life that helps keep my sanity. Last week was a big milestone for La Vida Skeeter: 100 comics! When I started drawing these, that number seemed very far away. Thanks for joining me week after week for a little amusement. I hope these silly mosquitoes elicit the occasional chuckle. I appreciate the feedback and encouragement some of you have given me over the past year and half. As for 2010, we’re gonna’ keep on truckin’. Every Friday: happy hour here!
Boom! Boom!
1 shot Sweet Vermouth
1 shot Dark Rum
1/2 shot Orange Juice
Champagne
Pour the vermouth, rum & oj into a champagne flute. Fill with champagne. Garnish with a slice of banana. Boom! Boom!
Cheers,
Lee
