about

the comic.Lee versus Skeeters

La Vida Skeeter:  The Mosquito Life is a webcomic featuring mosquitoes at “the bar” (usually someone’s arm, leg, neck, etc).  The idea began one summer night here in Tulsa.  My wife & I were out with some friends at an outdoor film series on the lawn of a local museum.  Despite a good coat of bugspray, I was being eaten alive by mosquitoes.  As I was swatting them away, I started to imagine my neck & arms as a bar that the mosquitoes were gathering at to have some drinks, get a little crazy, and talk about all things mosquito.  Seemed like a fun idea for a comic.  That was in July of ‘08.  The comic’s been going strong ever since.  It’s usually some bar jokes, a little bit of actual storyline, and just whatever makes me chuckle that week.  I also include a drink recipe in the blog below each comic.  Hope you’ll swing by on Fridays & join us for a drink and some laughs.

me.

My name’s Lee & I draw the comic.  When I’m not sketching, I play some frisbee golf, enjoy pretty much anything tiki-themed & cheer on the heels in pro wrestling.  I’m a photojournalist-by-day, husband-of-Wonder-Woman-the rest of the time, and play father to very demanding wiener dog.

specs.

I sketch out the drawings with a number 2 pencil, ink with a Faber-Castell brush and a medium-sized pen, and do any fine details (like eyelashes) with a .005 micron.   Next, I take a picture of them with a digital camera or scan them (whenever I have the means), import them into Photoshop to do the color job, then add the word & thought bubbles using Comic Life.
Wah-lah!  I’ve used Yahoo Sitebuilder to post the website (but have since switched over to a Wordpress/Comicpress setup), and the rest is all sweat, elbow grease, and smoke & mirrors.

Thanks for swinging by and do subscribe to the comic feed for free weekly updates.
