Tried a couple things today with mixed results. I’ve had the idea for this joke for a while, but waited ’til the last minute to draw it. This week was cruising right along, and all of sudden, I realized, “it’s Thursday! I gotta’ draw a comic!” Then, I decided to add a few Photoshop effects like the clouds, wind, and motion blur filters. I’m not 100% satisfied with it, but if there’s anything I’ve learned about working my dayjob as a photojournalist: it’s to meet deadline. One news item that struck me this last week was the Twitter race between celebrity Ashton Kutcher and CNN to see who could get to one million followers. It’s not so much the race or the celebrity involved that interests me as much as it was a certain charity that Kutcher was plugging along the way: Malaria No More. They provide mosquito nets, medicine, and spraying to countries where the malaria rate is high in an effort to eradicate this preventable disease (transmitted by…you guessed it: mosquitoes). Even though the theme here at La Vida Skeeter is very light-hearted, I wanted to take a moment to bring up this serious topic. Malaria is a disease that effects around 300 million people a year worldwide and takes more than 1 million lives. We have the power to do something to help prevent and treat it. All the joking aside, this is a cause that La Vida Skeeter can support 100%.

Fog Cutter
1 1/2 oz. Light Rum
1/2 oz. Brandy
1/2 oz. Gin
1 oz. Orange Juice
3 tbsps. Lemon Juice
1 1/2 tsps. Orgeat Syrup
1 tsp. Sweet Sherry
Shake everything except the sherry & strain into collins glass over ice. Top with sherry. Won’t keep bugs off you as much as Cutter, but might make you feel it less : )
